TRF-Maker's Mark Secretariat CenterCheck out our mascot, "Fly Lite", showing in the Thoroughbred Classic at the Robert Murphy Horse Show this past weekend.Click Here. The Maker's Mark Secretariat Center is a 22 acre Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation non-profit facility located at the Kentucky Horse Park. It's mission is two fold: 1. To take off track Thoroughbreds from rescue agencies and private owners across the nation and, using a combination of training methods, make them suitable for adoption as performance or pleasure horses in second careers. 2. To herald the value and athleticism of the off track Thoroughbred through education and outreach programs. Opened in October 2004, thanks to the generosity of Keeneland, Maker's Mark, Mary Lou Whitney, Castleton Lyons, and a host of others within the Thoroughbred industry, the Maker's Mark Secretariat Center, has space for 10-15 horses in retraining. Using the Horse Centered ReSchooling Program, a holistic, interdisciplinary training system, the TRF-MMSC gives horses a basic foundation for new disciplines in 30 to 45 days and puts them up for adoption. By showcasing hte value of the ex-racehorse, and highlighting the support that it receives from the racing industry itself, the TRF-MMSC seeks to celebrate the good work of all equine rescue and adoption organizations as well as the conscientious behavior of responsible owners. Our sincere hope is to pave the way for synergistic communications and collaborations among all who are concerned about the wellbeing of the Thoroughbred horse. The TRF-MMSC is dedicated to educating hte public about the Thoroughbred ex-racehorse through college, high school, and sumer internships, lectures, and workshops. Volunteers of all ages and talents are welcomed. Trianing hours are open to the public. Interactive demonstrations for the public are held most Saturdays (check the website calendar) unless we are at a horse show or on a field trip.
