Maker's Mark Secretariat Center Launches Volunteer And Certification ProgramsThe Secretariat Center is pleased to announce the development of new volunteer and certification programs. Our volunteer program will now be a more organized and fun experience for its participants, and is now being advertised in local colleges. “Volunteers are the lifeblood of any non-profit agency,” says Susanna Thomas, director of the MMSC. “Our goal is to make the volunteer experience as rewarding as possible.” As our most dedicated volunteer proves, even one person’s commitment can make a difference—Nikki Newton has been a faithful and energetic volunteer since her first day at the Center this summer, and now spends the whole of her Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays in the barn, keeping our trainees fed, watered and clean. The MMSC is also in the process of developing a volunteer certification program for the so-called ‘inexperienced horse enthusiasts’ who would like to work in the barn but have no prior horse experience. The certification program will train participants not only to work in our barn, but to be prepared for another volunteer position involving work with horses, and will also give them learning experiences about a subject which is for many, a lifelong interest.
