TRF-MMSC TO BE RECOGNIZED AS A KENTUCKY ECONOMIC

AND TOURISM ENTITY BY KENTUCKY HOUSE

FRANKFORT KENTUCKY - The Thoroughbred Retirement Center’s Maker’s Mark Secretariat Center (TRF-MMSC) will be recognized as a Kentucky Economic Development and Tourism entity through a resolution to be passed by the Kentucky House on Tuesday, March 29^th.

The Resolution was proposed by Kentucky State Representative Susan Westrom of Lexington, and will be voted upon by the House at the opening of the day’s session on March 29, 2010. 

At 1:00 that day, two horses from the TRF-MMSC will be outside the Capitol to greet visitors. The Center encourages the public to come visit at the Capitol to learn meet the horses and learn about the Center. Located at the Kentucky Horse Park, the TRF-MMSC has as its mission heralding the value of the off track Thoroughbred racehorse. It does this through the rehabilitation, reschooling, and adoption of retired race horses for new athletic careers as well as with educational outreach programs.

The TRF- MMSC promotes economic development and trade by encouraging horse buyers and exhibitors from other states and abroad to assess and experience the value of the Thoroughbred horse for sport and pleasure and to acquire high quality show horses in Kentucky. Working with the Kentucky equine industry, Thoroughbred farms, and local equine vendors, the TRF-MMSC seeks to showcase the Thoroughbred horse as an athlete and equine companion.

The TRF-MMSC has internships for college and high school students, a volunteer program, and regular interactive demonstrations for the general public. It encourages visitors from around the world to visit the office and stables, to enjoy the equine artworks and library, to observe the horses in training, to ask questions, to try out the horses, or at least to lay their hands on them, all of which and makes the TRF-MMSC a destination for visitors.
